Determinants of adopting improved bread wheat varieties in Arsi Highland, Oromia Region, Ethiopia: A Double-Hurdle Approach

The improvement of agricultural productivity using technology is an important avenue for increasing output and reducing poverty in sub-Saharan countries. However, the low adoption high yield varieties has been identified as one main reasons Africa. Consequently, study examined effect demographic, socioeconomic institutional factors affecting adoption-intensity improved wheat (IWVs), data obtained from randomly selected farm households Arsi Highland Ethiopia. We estimated a Double hurdle model to analyze determinants intensity IWVs adoption, use were two independent decisions influenced by different factors. results also show that more appropriate than Tobit model. Empirical estimates first reveal farming experience, distance cooperatives, renting tractor combine harvester, Urea application, net income grain sale all significantly increased likelihood adoption.
